Scarcity of resources leads people to be selfish

Once it happened, i was standing in an queue. Unfortunately but surprisingly the line was quite a bit long, as it was a working day and people weren't expected in such a large number. Few restless people stood behind me, cursing the government for not making two counters. A old man standing in front of me, gave a sigh of uneasiness and exclaimed," Population in our country is increasing tremendously, resources are getting depleted, at some point of time in future there would huge calamity and we will be left from where we started". This statement caused a serene silence in the crowd. Another old man (probably his friend) replied," People today are becoming selfish, they do not think of other people needs, just want their needs to be satisfied". Listening to this discussion, I thought to myself, are really people becoming selfish? What is the cause for this problem and what could be the remedial measures? Is right education a cause for this behavior? But why we always claim education to be the dominant cause of all major problems like corruption, etc.. Lets us consider for a while that education would be the root cause of this selfish behavior, but then why this happens :

  1. A person giving donations to various social agencies tries to break traffic rules to reach the destination quickly.

2. A millionaire driving, curses a common man for his urgency to cross the road.

This different behavior to dissimilar situation is caused by lack of that resource to which the person seriously is sensitive.Assassins-Creed-wallpaper-815

In economics, you can call the resource to which the person has a very high elasticity, causes this behavior. A person becomes desperate to fulfill one's needs to which one strictly desire, and especially when it is compromised. Keep two extremely thirsty person( who do not know each other) in the middle of the dessert or anywhere, at which there is no source of water, and then let only one to satisfy their thirst, and let them make the choice as to who will do so. No matter how much one is educated, no matter how is one's upbringing, a person will be desperate to satisfy one's need. Some people would argue that, no, the person would allow the other person take it. This is but one's perspective but the real sarcastic truth is the one which the person abides for his own needs. Earlier I gave examples as to how same people behave differently to contrary situations. A person who gives donations to various social organization, does not feel pinched if one is giving some of his money away, as the reduction of that wouldn't cause much damage to one's financial status. But the same person when passes through traffic signal would prefer to break rules( or cross over other ) if one is getting late.

Taking another example in which a millionaire cursing common people for coming in one's way in their urgency to cross over the road and making it difficult for them to drive. Common people are desperate as they hurry up on roads so as to manage their petty profits which solely depends on their little time, to large profits by utilizing every single moment. So their sensitivity for this time is high, so a common man thinks about himself and continue to fulfill his needs irrespective of the distractions to others. But the sensitivity for millionaires is not so high, so one prefers to follow the traffic rule.

Here we can see how a person's elasticity of demand changes one's character. This discussion is not to blame people for their variable faces at different situation, but to let us realize that how this scarcity of resources could cause us to change. Therefore instead of blaming other people for being selfish, we should try to understand other's sensitivity, and then try to judge others. Thus it will help us to reduce hatred among people, as we will be able to understand as to why one behaves selfishly at some point of time.

A twist in the most popular quote of inspiration!

Yes! you read it right. Now the first question which might be arising in your mind would be,” which is that quote, which he is talking about”.Now without wasting time, let me tell you that quote. That quote goes like this ”Great people do not do things different, they do things differently.” this is a quote which you certainly would have heard or read.Let me first review this quote before i reveal the twist. The quotation since decades persuades us to try some innovative ways, instead of relying on the known fact. It reminds us to understand, that for attaining success there is no, one golden rule. But it sometimes leave people astray! The twisted quote goes like this,” Great people do not do things different, they do the same thing consistently.” Think of any great person known so far, one would find consistency in their work. Take Thomas Alva Edison, when he was experimenting for inventing electric bulb, it was his consistent effort towards his goal, which lead him to his immortal success. The latter part of the twisted quote reveals, the importance of learning the basics and consistently applying to solve various problems.Take any success, the root cause will be consistency, any one can become specialist in any field by just practicing consistently. Why to talk about past, we see this statement being fulfilled in our daily lives. In our colleges, people who keeps on studying, are more favorites towards success. But this completely does not wash away the fact that there should be no innovation, it says besides innovation, one should also be regular. Might be people say that the former quote(in red), shows us that great people do things differently, itself contains consistency. But the point is that the “consistency” is the only “different thing”!!.

Indian TV shows are remarkable engineering of human psychology

For increasing TRPs, TV programmer are leaving no stone unturned. Bringing glamour to shows, though had its fruitful result, but for the time being is losing its flavor. Programmer started bringing stars of big screen to smaller screen( TV ). This makes people to see their favorite stars doing different acts other than their routinely acts, which they do in their films.Through this viewers get an opportunity to learn the lifestyle of the stars more precisely. But the drawback is the cost of the stars, which is too heavy for the TV programmer to carry on their shows economically sound. Our human psychology is such that we take keen interest in different people, want to know about them, how they live, how they respond to different stimuli( similar to ours ), etc. So keeping this in mind, they thought why not to create star of their own! Moreover making a star is not at all difficult, ask yourself what an star needs:

  • should posses unique acting style
  • should obviously have good looks
  • and of course a lot of media hype to back up, what else!

TV programme makers held this idea and went on to make a revolution in the Indian TV history. By making TV stars of their own, despite bringing down the cost of programme making, but along with increasing TRPs, they also create an icon. In this process, shows which touch common people’s life, are recommended. It happens when people see stories similar to their life, they are attracted towards it. And the fact is that majority of Indians are in middle class. Reality shows, have recently attained an elated state, as because the characters involved are basically from the same channel. The important point to note is, the way these reality shows are held. People coming to these shows are given tasks, which people used to do daily in their lives, these people come in the same attire (costume), which they wear in their original programmes, this is according to human psychology, which says that people want to see how their favorites responds to different conditions, like in the moment of happiness, the moment of despair, etc. Vote for me now!
